September 29--What We Missed (and what we almost missed)
We missed Lilah the most and caught many glimpses of her on video chat. And John, suspecting there was more to the Spanish coast than the tapas restaurants that we haunted, found himself some nice cliffs to explore just north of town.
September 28--Paella
We met Denise and Al's British friends, John and his family, and went out for wood-fired paella with rabbit and other meats. Flavored with a bit of wood ash, the paella was phenomenal enough to eat right out of the pan.
September 27--Around Denia
We stayed right in downtown Denia at the Hotel Nou Roma--and at one of their apartments when the hotel filled up. And we did lots of eating and drinking in that town!
September 26--Rosario's Cooking Class
Denise arranged a cooking class with her friend Rosario who lived up the coast from Denia in L'Estanyo with her husband Lorenzo, an octopus fisherman. Their home was luxurious but understated and their hospitality matched the elegant surroundings. There was an olive tree loaded with fruit in various stages of ripeness and Rosario had olives soaking in urns in different solutions. We mostly watched closely as Rosario led us through her seafood-centric menu and the wine flowed freely as we sat outside near the pool. Ah, the good life!
