Les Flagrants Delires

The nearby village of Vorepppe, tucked into the folds of the Chartreuse mountains, was picturesque so we parked and walked to find some lunch. Aromas pulled us into a side street where the umbrellas on the sidewalk indicated a strong possibility. The name was charming too—and the hostess and the chef in his open kitchen greeted us warmly so we sat down and enjoyed a great menu of salad with salmon terrine with mousseline sauce, a glass of rose, and Cafe Gourmand—a small coffee with a trio of the day’s desserts—creme brûlée, chocolate mousse and tiramisu. Oh la la!The friendly chef had lived in New York City for 3 years and spoke English so we chatted about current events, his delicious food, and his curious decor in the bathroom lined with playing cards of various German bishops. Stop here if you go through Voreppe between 12 and 2, or catch him on weekend nights when he makes a special menu and the local folks bring their platters to be filled. Great concept!
